Postdoctoral Opening
A postdoctoral research fellow/associate position is immediately available at Wayne State University School of Medicine/NIH-Perinatology Research Branch Translational Nanotechnology Lab. We are looking for qualified persons with experience in the development of animal models, and/or characterization of the efficacy of dendrimer-based drug delivery nanodevices in animal models. The chosen person will work with an exciting multidisciplinary group of researchers in the cutting-edge area of using nanostructured materials for drug delivery, applied clinical problems, neuroscience and engineering. This highly inter-disciplinary project is part of a successful ongoing effort in developing tailored dendritic polymer-based nanodevices for targeted drug delivery in animal models of infection and neuroinflammation. Extensive collaborations between the schools of engineering and medicine are key components of the project. Research experience in any of these areas will be considered: (1) animal model development and animal handling, preferably with guinea pigs, rats, and/or rabbits; (2) microsurgical skills; (3) tissue handling, histology and staining; (4) experience in animal behavioral studies (5) experience in Western Blot, RT-PCR and ELISA (6) evaluation of inflammation (7) cell culture and cell studies (8) manuscript writing. A PhD in any related area such as neuroscience, pharmaceutical science, immunology/inflammation or a related field will be considered. A background in neuroscience will be a strong plus.
The research associate will work primarily with Dr. Sujatha Kannan interacting closely with the NIH-Perinatology Research Branch, Chemical Engineering, and Children’s Hospital of Michigan (where in vivo testing will be performed). The groups have extensive polymer, in vitro and in vivo characterization and novel imaging facilities. The candidate should be highly self-motivated, with excellent communication and writing skills and should be able to interact well with other members of the team. The position is available immediately and a competitive salary commensurate with experience will be provided.
