Jayendra Patole

Postdoctoral Associate
CV (doc)

Email: jpatole@hotmail.com

Dr Jayendra Patole recieved his Masters degree in Chemistry from Mumbai University and his Ph.D in Chemistry with a focus on drug design for cancer and tuberculosis involving enzyme inhibitory compound and iron metabolism from the University of Pune, India.

Dr. Patole's current research interests focus on drug delivery using dendritic polymers for conjugating anticancer and anti-inflammatory drugs. Due to due to their globular structure and small size (~5-10nm) similar to proteins, they are able to pass through biological membranes. Work involves, synthesis characterization of polyamidioamide dendrimers (PAMAM) drug conjugates related to cancer and asthma and studying effect of surface functional groups on their release, biodistribution, cellular entry using amide, ester and peptidyl linkages. Chemistry usually involves peptide coupling chemistry and use for biodegradable linkers between drug and dendrimers in order to study linker based release kinetics. Also involved in using imaging agents to tag on to the conjugates such as fluorescent dyes viz. fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) and using positron emission tomographic agents (PET) in order to study biodistribution and drug release in conjugation with Medical School at Wayne State University.
